Report – Mapping Violence on Journalism in Pakistan

The media environment in Pakistan is unfavorable for media professionals making it one of the worst countries in the world for journalists. According to the Pakistan Press Freedom Report 2022, journalists in Pakistan have been subjected to murder, torture, threats, kidnapping, and attacks, with 34% of reported attacks occurring in the federal capital.

According to the World Press Freedom Index, Pakistan is ranked 157 out of 180 countries. Journalists accuse the West of failing to speak out when attacks on the press in Pakistan increased by 90% in a past single year. The violence against media includes threats, legal cases, detention, assault, and murder. In the last few years, Pakistan has become the worst place for journalists. Due to severe censorship, they can’t speak, write or analyze with freedom.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority {PEMRA} is playing the leading role in brutality against journalists.
